Igor Tkachenko last flight video

Wings of Russia studio has prepared a video from the training for the MAKS show flight of Russian Knights and Strizhi aerobatic teams on 16 august, when Igor Tkachenko didn’t return home…

As you may see, one Su-27 in formation is missing. While there is no official information there is an opinion it’s tail 08 of Oleg Erofeev who had to return to base due to some technical issues. It could affect whole team usual order to change… with all the followings.
At the end of the video Su-27 went for big circle while Strizhi got the scene for aerobatic. Then it all has happened.

Igor Tkachenko death. Situation simulation.

By Pavel | August 18, 2009 on 9:56 am | In # Avia news | No Comments

Here is the Vesti news channel simulation of the accident, when 16 August two Su-27 collided over the Zhukovsky which caused death of the guards colonel, Russian Knights aerobatic team leader.

Unfortunately, as always, there are mistakes in this material, like Vitaly Melnik was not co-pilot of Igor Tkachenko. Again, collided planes are:
Su-27UB, tail 18, pilot Igor Tkachenko, navigator Igor Kurilenko
Su-27, tail 14, pilot Vitaly Melnik.

But still material is very interesting, main version for now - because of the clouds Melnik didn’t see the Tkachenko plane and hit it.

Death of Igor Tkachenko. New information.

By Pavel | August 17, 2009 on 3:08 pm | In # Avia news | No Comments

Info that is not in the news yet.

Looks like Tkachenko was dead after the collision, eject seat misses headrest. There is no information/prove that Igor ejected at all.
Kurilenko ejected and landed near the airfield.

Melnik was controlling plane with engine on fire to avoid hitting the living houses, his Su-27 landed in the plain field, he ejected and landed on the tree.

UPDATE, 18 august 2009: Melnik has landed in the field and Kurilenko was taken down from the tree:
http://rian.ru/video/20090816/181159256.html

Both pilots are fine, Melnik has landed in the field, it was wind so he gets slight legs concussion. Kurilenko has strain. Right now both in Krasnogorsk hospital, feeling fine.

Igor Tkachenko, the Russian Knights team leader has crashed

By Pavel | August 16, 2009 on 6:23 pm | In # Avia news | 3 Comments

tkachenko1Today, during the preparation for the MAKS-2009 in Zhukovsky skies two Su-27 collided. Three pilots ejected, Igor Tkachenko and Igor Kurilenko from the leader two-seater Su-27UB and Vitaly Melnik from the wingman single-seater Su-27.

Parachute of the Igor Tkachenko didn’t open and the pilot died. By the unchecked information one more pilot (not known which one) has spinal fracture.
UPDATE 17.08.2009 14:12 Moscow time:
Kurilenko has concussion of the brain and malleolar fracture of the left calf. Melnik has footstep soft tissue bruise.

First version of the accident is the two-seater Su-27UB control failure, as a result wingman has overflew the leader and hit him in the frontal part by the engines. Again, by the unchecked information Igor Tkachenko after that wasn’t able to eject, the eject command was given by the co-pilot, Igor Kurilenko. Engine of the wingman get on fire and pilot ejected.

Farnborough the golden years 1949-1959

This collection of films, charts some very interesting periods in British aircraft development. From the Meteor to the Vulcan and Lightning there are a great many aircraft shown although each aircraft is only given a very short feature as the makers of the films try to include as many aircraft as possible.

Many of the aircraft in these films are experimental prototypes and it is interesting to see the development of some of these aircraft in later films such as the Vulcan and the disappearance of others which fall by the wayside such as the Westland Westminster, Fairy Ultralight and Bristol Brabazon.

Axis & Allied Bombers of WW2
The film introduces some of the most commonly used bombers from both Axis and Allied countries. Little over an hour long, it offers good aerial footage and a few more interesting pieces here and there. The film has English commentary, despite some very minor mistakes it is good and gives some basic information about each plane .

Part of the Modern Marvels series the title of this film says it all.

Covering the SR-71, F-117, F-22 and B2 the film describes the technology of stealth from aircraft shape to radar absorbent materials. time is also given to stealth ships.

The film covers all the technology in detail but it can be a bit too “Wow look at this!” in it`s presentation.
