This collection of films, charts some very interesting periods in British aircraft development. From the Meteor to the Vulcan and Lightning there are a great many aircraft shown although each aircraft is only given a very short feature as the makers of the films try to include as many aircraft as possible.

Many of the aircraft in these films are experimental prototypes and it is interesting to see the development of some of these aircraft in later films such as the Vulcan and the disappearance of others which fall by the wayside such as the Westland Westminster, Fairy Ultralight and Bristol Brabazon.

Although there are some very interesting clips of rare aircraft in this compilation, the films are aimed at the viewer with only a passing interest in aviation and so there is only general information given and each aircraft is only shown for a very short time although many of the aircraft appear in several of the films.

Part of the Modern Marvels series the title of this film says it all.

Covering the SR-71, F-117, F-22 and B2 the film describes the technology of stealth from aircraft shape to radar absorbent materials. time is also given to stealth ships.

The film covers all the technology in detail but it can be a bit too “Wow look at this!” in it`s presentation.

Although not mentioned in the title this is a film purely about the cold war jets of the British Royal Air Force.

This film tells the story of the aircraft used by the RAF during the period of the cold war. Featuring the Hunter, Canberra, the V bombers, Valiant, Victor and Vulcan, the Lightning, Buccaneer, Phantom, Harrier and Nimrod.

A welcome feature during the film is the recollections of pilots who flew the aircraft, these give interesting insights into what it was like to fly during the tensions of the period.

A little worrying though are the errors in the commentary from the huge error of stating the Hunter had two engines to the statement that the Victors were retired in 1991 when they flew until 1993 and the declaration that the Buccaneer was supersonic at sea level, the Buccaneer was one of the fastest and most stable aircraft at low level but it wasn`t supersonic.

All in all an interesting film, at one hour twenty minutes it is a little long but it does cover it`s subjects well although many of the sections contain parts which appear in other films.
