Su-27UB, tail 18, pilot Igor Tkachenko, navigator Igor Kurilenko
Su-27, tail 14, pilot Vitaly Melnik.

But still material is very interesting, main version for now - because of the clouds Melnik didn’t see the Tkachenko plane and hit it.

UPDATE, 18 august 2009: Melnik has landed in the field and Kurilenko was taken down from the tree:
Keeping in mind our subject we will talk about the best kind of extreme, specific and exclusive tourism - the jet flight tour.

The “Country of Tourism” company (www.bestrussiantour.com) has acquired wide experience in unforgettable and exciting MiG-29 and MiG-31 jet flight tours in Russia, offered for travelers from all over the world. But flights in these fighters aren`t the only way to reach the sky. For every aviation fan “Country of Tourism” organizes sightseeing and training flights (with official pilots license) on L-29 “Delphin” and L-39 “Albatros” trainer jets in the Moscow country-side.

The jet flights tours are designed for aviation fans and VIP tourists. This kind of activity gains in popularity year by year. In the past only airforce pilots were able to perform stratospheric flights (”The Edge of Space”) and to see our planet from 22km high the way astronauts see it. Today every person can enjoy the fantastic view of Earth from space and feel like real spacemen. The scene of black space, bright sun and rounded planet will never leave you once you have seen it. And the way you will get it - the MiG flight - will be a true lifetime experience.

The flights in the unique MiG-29 and MiG-31 jets take place from the Sokol aviation plant (Nizhniy Novgorod) which is famous for its advanced jet fighters.

All the flights are performed by 1st class test pilots who are fully licensed to do such flights. A detailed flight plan is created individually for each tourist according to their preferences, flight time can range from 25 to 45 minutes.

The most popular MiG-29 and MiG31 flight plans are:

Maximum altitude and speed flight in a MiG-31 fighter-interceptor which means reaching altitude of 22-23km (Edge of space) and speeds up to 2,500 kmph.

Aerobatic flight in a MiG-29 fighter.

Complex MiG-29 flight - consisting of a climb to 21km and aerobatics.

“Edge of Space”

MiG-31 or MiG-29 stratospheric flight can best be described as easy and pleasant zero overload flight which leaves a lifetime impression. During the comfortable flight without any extreme conditions maximum loading will be up to 3G (not much more than in a good sports car), that’s why this flight fits absolutely everybody and has the biggest popularity. This flight is often given as a present to business partners, company heads or just good friends. It can be used for excellent and creative promo action, as an advertising campaign or as a unique prize in any contest.

The MiG-31 is a high-altitude fighter-interceptor, and was the first of the 4th generation Russian combat aircraft. Created 25 years ago it is still the fastest and highest climbing combat jet on active duty today. The MiG-31 is the successor to the MiG-25 high-altitude interceptor.

MiG-29 aerobatics flight.

The unique and famous MiG-29 fighter will let you get tons of excitement and adrenaline during the aerobatics flight. The MiG-29 fighter is currently on active duty in 26 countries around the world.

MiG-29 flight could be recommended to the one who likes something “real hot”. The Flight plan starts with basic maneuvers and continues to complicated and tough aerobatics.

There are two basic flight plans which differ first of all by the flight time - 25 and 45 minutes accordingly.

The maximum load the flight tourist can get during the aerobatic flight is 7-8G, but by request the program can be lowered down to loads of 3-4G.

It is important to note the MiG-29 aerobatic flight program is very flexible and mainly depends on the passenger`s feelings, if the passenger feels fine then the aerobatic program will continue and can even get harder (again, by request of the extreme tourist) but if the passenger doesn`t feel too good the program can be softened, even to a simple horizontal sightseeing flight so the passenger can recover.

Don`t be afraid you might not handle it and that this aerobatics program, which allows you to feel all the beauty and freedom of real FLIGHT, is for the young and strong. Your ability to take flight loading usually has nothing to do with your age or gender. The “Country of Tourism” company has experience of 65 year old tourists or female tourists who were able to fly and get the best experience from such flights.

The MiG-29 aerobatics flight program can also be given as a present by Gift Certificate to business partners, company directors, friends or relatives.

Pre-flight procedures.

All the MiG-29 or MiG-31 pre-flight activities take about 3hrs and take place directly at the Sokol plant (this time does not include travel to Nizhniy Novgorod and hotel check-in).

The first stage takes 1.5 hours. During this stage the tourist talks to their pilot about the flight plan, tells the medic about their health, and is fitted for a flight suit. The tourist is told about the aircraft, its main parts and is briefed on the planned aerobatic maneuvers. Then the tourist will sit in the fighter cockpit to take a closer look at the controls and be briefed on their actions in case of an emergency.

The MiG-29 or MiG-31 flight will take 25-45 minutes from takeoff to landing. During the flight the plane will perform almost all the possible aerobatic maneuvers such as rolls, turns, upside down flight, loops and others. From time to time the tourist will be given a chance to control the fighter by themselves! Under the pilot’s thorough supervision of course.

After landing the tourist receives a flight Certificate. A photo is taken with the pilot and a record will be entered in the tourist pilot`s logbook (if they have one).

If you’ve decided to take this adventure, you need to know that MiG fighter flight should be booked not less than 40 days in advance (better 2-4 months) so all the necessary permissions for this flight can be prepared. To receive permission for the flight in Russia tourists should fill out the form and email it with a passport scan.

More information about the flights, order details or anything else can be obtained from the English speaking managers of the “Country of Tourism” company or directly from the site www.bestrussiantour.com.
