L-39
By Pavel | September 22, 2005 on 10:17 am | In Civilians, Rus |L-39 jet-plane is used by Rus aerobatic team. All the miracles of aerobatic we can see from the land, Rus pilots are doing on this plane. A little bit old already, but still very manoeuvrable and useful. All the photos have been made by me personally, when I went to training base near the Moscow and flew this plane together with one of Rus pilots.
This plane was used for training purposes in the past. For sure, now pilots are using them too. But for today’s generation of fighters this plane already doesn’t fit, there are more modern training planes.

Rus aerobatic team is the only team that survived in the dark times of Russia in 90’s. And today we can enjoy their art. If you’ll recall that those planes has far not so powerful engine comparing with MiG-29 (Strizhi aerobatic team) and Su-27 (Russian knights), you’ll understand that it’s really sign of extremely high professionalism. Every mistake that pilot can do on MiG-29 can be fixed very fast because of big throttle and power reserve they have. L-39 pilots doesn’t have such ability, so they have to be extremely concentrated and careful flying tight formation and aerobatic. As a result we can see in the sky the beauty of flight.
You can experience all this beauty easily by ordering the flight tour at Incredible Adventures company. In addition, through this company you can order Mig-29 and Su-27 flights with any aerobatic program you want - from very smooth to the extreme ones.

Can you show a video and maybe a description on how it is done about the “belly to belly” formation flying? I think that only the Rus and The Russian Knights (or the Testpilots) can do this currently.
I am a former flight instructor and aerospace engineer.

Hello, Kocsis
Yes, sure, it can be done. In nearest days I will receive official multimedia CD about Rus aerobatic team. I saw it before already, there is much information there, including info about their formations. And I have an exclusive permission to public that video here, on site.
Just I think I didn’t get correctly, what ‘belly to belly’ formation is? Can you clearify? Are you talking about ‘mirror’ formation, when two planes are near, but one oriented normally, second is upside down?
Or you just talking about short-distance (up to 1 meter) flights in formation?
