  1. this aircraft is very nice and admirable its far away against of the US f22a raptor im always wathcing the airshow and i like this unbeatable aircraf

  2. that would get dominated by an f-22, its about missles these days, a missle has no pilot so it doesnt have turning issues. missles have vectored thrust too……dogfights dont happen unless its two poor countries fighting. and stopping in mid air and opening ur profile up like that just makes the enemy laugh..yeah it looks nice in shows but in battle it makes a very easy target to destroy.

  3. Yeaah! Easely, like to open beer can! No problem! Get down 10 Su-37’s with one F-22 - like to kick a small boy!

And who cares about all this thrust vectoring issues, reverse thrust, aircrafts with negative stability, reverse geometry wings etc - all the things that supposed to increase aircraft maneuvring abilities. Why, who needs all this complicated things? Take a big bomber, something like B-52, let him carry apprx 1017 modern long-range air-to-air missiles with thrust vectoring engines and all the stuff and it will be the best fighter ever?

I don’t think this question may be solved so easely. And there is special discussion about the dogfight future here:
Close air combat - does it exist?
    You are mostly welcome.

Besides, I would recommend you to read this article too:

  4. It may be the age of the missile but only Russian air-to-air missiles have thrust vectoring. Missiles also have turning issues because if they put on to many G’s, their wings will rip off. In a stealth plane like the f 22 it would be easy for the pilot to get cocky and let a plane fly around and look for him. That would be a mistake because th Su-37 and most russian fighters have IR sensors which can find the raptor. since the IR is a passive way to find a plane, it would be easy for the Su 37 to sneak up behind it and put an IR missile or some 30mm bullets into the raptor. If the two planes some how managed to get into a dogfight, the 37 would dominate no questions asked, with its thrust vectoring and canards it would easily out manouver the rator.

The idea of a B 52 as a fighter is not a stupid idea but it isn’t that smart either. It wouldn’t be able to out manouver an air or ground launched missile unlike other fighters especially like the Su 37. Having air to air missiles would be good as a defence for the 52 but it would be stupid to use it as a fighter.

  6. Aircraft such as the SU 37 demonstrate a technological ability on the part of the designers. Any argument about combat is superficial. The real point is that the technology has probably affected other areas that we do not know about yet. What other things can the plane do in combat that we have not seen? If aircraft do not need to turn really well any more, why build an f22 to look like a fighter….They both have areas of advantage, clearly the SU 37 has an aerodynamic advantage while the F 22 has a digital system advantage, it could go either way, depending on how the fight develops.

    Comment by Steve — March 2, 2006 #

  7. However anyone looks at it, dogfights will eventually occur in air combats, if not why else would the Western world be copying Russian technology n doctrines in close combat technology. Helmet targeting, thrust vectoring….. even stealth technology, a Discovery Channel once interviewed a Russian scientist that defected to the States who was a pioneer in stealth technology who before his defection, was selling vital stealth technologies to the west. Anyway, back to CAC, super fighters, with their speed, its only a matter of time before a group of fighters meet and engage in a furball.

    Comment by jeff khaw — March 17, 2006 #

  8. you will nead a plane like the 37 to combat the poorer counties in close air combat because the raptor does not have this capability and it will be able to take down more in this way.

    Comment by alexander davis — March 21, 2006 #

  9. People there are two things to be considered about the su-37, the first is the already discussed superiority of maneuver which is unique to it, the second which is not unique to the su-37 is the ability to carry onyx missiles, like the mig-29smt, to understand the power of this aircraft you have to put these two features together. For those who dont know an ONYX missiles is capable of reaching MACH 3, and in theory it could sink and aircracft carrier like the G.W. , with just one of these babies, so combined that with what have you saw in the video, that should give u an idea.

    Comment by JORGE GAMBINO — April 19, 2006 #

  10. the power of the su-37 makes it a true power because you have new technologies to shoot down planes like the f-22 that has hevily compesated for the steath ability one the technogy is broken through IR or some other technology then the f-22 will be a hunk of junk because if it loses its ability to be stelth then it loses everything so when they say it will be i service for 30 years then someone will learn to counter this and if you stick this on a true plan like the su-37 then it will dominate there are even rumours that it has slight stealth.

    Comment by adamba — June 17, 2006 #

  13. someing that is easily noticed in history is that the us will develope a new air tactic and then the russians will find a solution (the us make low level bombers so the russians made look down -shoot down radars). This tread has continued to this day as the russians have already made 2 different types of radar that can detect stealth airplanes (one is called the tesla radar not sure about the other) these radars have been combat proven when yugoslavia officially shot down a f-117 and unofficially 2 more and a b-2.
So it is only a matter of time before these radars become standard on russian planes and in their missiles.

    Comment by Munzy — June 25, 2006 #

  14. Heh, people always underestimating the russians, the arms race never ended and the russians had this technology including space travel way before the americans, they were shooting down F-4 phamtoms with 50’s era aircraft, and the currently have a “Raptor killer” in the works, but this Sukoi is very nice and could take out and out manuever everything but the F-22 and that includes F-4, F-14 tomcat, F-15 eagle, F-16 viper, F-18 hornet. There was once a joint project between Nasa and the Air force to make a thrust vector capable F-16 called the Vista, and a F-16 aerodynamically designed for supersonic speeds called the F-16 XL which were successful but cancelled for financial reasons, the only thrust vectoring aircraft the U.S has is the harriers, F-22 raptor, and the X-35, while russia has many more plus a more superior ground attack aircraft which rivals the A-10 warthog, a higher turning rate, and speed. I think it’s a Su-25, It’s called “frogfoot”. If there were ever a war between russia, china and america, you can count on mutual destruction and the end of life as we know it,

    Comment by anakin — July 16, 2006 #

  18. The Su-37 is only a Technology Demonstrator and is not going into mass production. The thrust vectoring and all that stuff is going to be put in the Su-35.

    Comment by Jordan — July 17, 2006 #

  19. Everyone here is set on argueing which plane is better Su or F 22. How much actual flying expierence in fighters have any of you had? At this stage both eastern & western aircraft {Gen 3 & 4 fighters) aswell as these latest Gen 5 planes can shoot down any other fighter given te right position. As far as missles go the AIM 120 ammram and equivelant are capable of 80% target aquired kills, up frpm 30% older radar guided and 60% older IR. As such position becomes the key to air superiority. The f 22 greatest benifit, yet to be equaled is super cruise. Mach 1.6 with out after burner allows these f 22 to gain these benificial positions more often. Certainly the Su is capable of more extreme angles of attack than any other fighter but with average engament ranges between 7000 and 40000 meters this is less important.

  20. …and while the ‘Super Flanker’ pilot does his little Pugachev manuever and spills all his useful energy, the guy driving the third-stringer old and tired Eagle will put a Sidewinder right up his tailpipe.

It’s all about energy and angles, bottom line. Oh yeah, speed is STILL life.

  22. The lesser version of this plane had no trouble beating F-15s in an Indian training excersize. The su-30s had better missils and long range capabilaty. Thay were also more manuverable. I think an SU-37 would make short work of an f-22 or a f-35

    Comment by Paul Nicholson — August 9, 2006 #

  23. Hello already I found it, when they left the long-range missiles said not but airplanes, so that? And many countries that developed modern technology as Canada and UK left them of side and turns out that the airplanes continued being necessary, serious absurd to think that an airplane with characteristics stealth is enough and exceeds

    Comment by eduar2 — September 7, 2006 #

  24. A russian plane cant beat down a nato one, the radar capability ar less efficient in a russian jet thats all…and a lil question to the person who said at the begening that an su can beat an f22, explain to me how you can intercept an furtif jet then talk again….

  25. What it comes down to is the pilot, you can have the best aircraft and weaponry of the time, but if you do not have enough experience in handling that specific equipment then all the technology will not matter because it all falls on the operator

    Comment by the dude — October 22, 2006 #

  26. it comes down to the su-37 is not in production the f-22 is so its a mute point. f-22 can defeat anything produced now

    Comment by usplanefan — October 31, 2006 #

  27. usplanefan - how ever you desire it, but f22 will not defeat anything untill russian aicrafts are in the air =) and it will not become true, only because you say this . In fact the most crucial for air to air combat are - radar, missiles and maneuver to get attack position before enemy. And russian missiles are leaders on the market in this field today. The other thing is that NASA and other american military org emloyed many of russian and former USSR experts in this field - that is the main reason why US are to some extent are capable of competing with russian war machinery (actively selling Iraqi oil to get money for this).

    Comment by Overlord77 — November 6, 2006 #

  28. You can also compare russian helicopter Ka - 50 with any american “equivalent” - if there is any and everything will become clear =).

    Comment by Overlord77 — November 6, 2006 #

  29. F-22 is aimed to be a fighter with AWACS and satellite support. It alone is not a fighter, because is looses then its stelth advantage. That is one point. The other is its air-to-air missile. We may compare: Russian r-29 will reach its aim on 180 km. And US AIM 120 - on 70-90. Now You may guess: who has more chances, because despite any stelth tech., ground radar systems will find the f-22 (in stelth or not stelth mode). The other question us, that Russians do not have enough money to manufacture more than 3 pc. of SU-37 and is not mad at all to attack USA. So USA may sleep well.

    Comment by Zorg — December 29, 2006 #

  30. Plus USAF can also destroy SU-37 from space because of the F-22s space booster that carries missiles capable of hitting targets from 80,000,000 miles away and can carry 4 in space with extra fuel

  32. A lot of you really don’t know what you’re talking about.

The F22 and F35 both have Thrust Vectoring, and they can pull +12 Gs. That’s a LOT of manueverability.

The F22 and F35 also have ridiculously powerful and advanced radars, as well as the new Sidewinder missles.

    They are both outstanding dofighters.

That said, so are the new Su-30s and the 35/37 tech demonstrators.

It would be a good fight - the American planes may only be the smallest fraction less manueverable, but they’ve got Supercruise and Stealth on their side.

    Comment by SVX — February 1, 2007 #

  33. Agreed, the only reasons they dont show its full maneuverability and potential is because it is too risky for the AF to realease information on the aircraft AND because they dont want somthing bad to happen (equipment malfunction, or even a crash) durring a demonstration flight or video. F-22 is WAY too expensive to play with :)

  34. frank learn from Pavel, ignorance is no sin unless you don read and learn, US only shows to impress people but it doent show the downside of their planes, pride for our contry is good but… we need to be realistic in all aspect. for example Irak war, US kick butt, but whats happenning now it is reversing, its not about tech, true its good, but man courage is better, for one side or the other. the courage will drive anny person to do the impossible in the field of battle, so it happpens to a pilot too.

  35. Ace, dont forget that a foxhound as old as it is they can fly as high as any f22 - 35, and dont forget that the mig foxbat and foxhond are basicaly called starships and they are the most fast interceptor still today with a lot of broken records from 0 to whatever high in no time, not including their sensitive radar to pick up low emiting radars such as cruise misiles, think boy, today everybody has high tech including China.

  36. Reading the comments made so far, many of these people are very uninformed on the developements in aviation today. The Russians have far exceeded us in inventiveness. This idea that the F-22 missle aircraft is superior is just not true. Before one makes silly comments just because one is from the US one might want to do a bit of research and learn what is really going on and what could and would happen. Not third world fighting either. The probability of US, Russia or China getting into a war is absurd. There are plenty of other people to fight and it is coming. An aircraft better than the F-22 is needed. We should consider working with the Russians in this area, learn from them, they are pretty smart people, extremely inventive. The fellow that thought that 10 Su-35’s could be shot down by one F-22 does not even know the F-22 capabilities, not enough missles there buddy.

    Comment by richard — May 25, 2007 #

  37. I agree with richard , some people are just idiots that know shit about avionics and are victims of propaganda and thinking that F-22 Raptor could shot down whole Europe-Asian Air forces..
You guys are sick , even if F-22 would manage to shot down a Su-37 , the next 1 would already have a lock on him.
But when it comes to 1 vs 1 , you can’t say Raptor is better and you can’t say Su-37 is better because you can’t know , they didn’t fight , so all the speculation is absurd.

  42. The SU-37 is a very impressive airplane, but it will fail as did the government that brought it into existance. When the Soviet Union collapsed it was discovered that they really spent in the neighborhood of 40% of GDP on their military while claiming 11%. At 3% of GDP the F-22 comes from a system with a different-much more efficient- economic reality. The F-22 is stealthy and operational while the SU-37 is neither and is also just as impressive when I saw one do many of the same maneuvers. Russia has to SELL their airplane the US does not, although it will. The US is not showing all that this airplane can do like the Russians because they do not have to sell it.

  43. SU37 VS F22 Raptor. The SU37 would WIN no doubt about it because the SU37 has a top speed of 1550 MPH , a top height of 59100 FT ,and is more maneuverable. The F22 Raptor would LOSE because it has a top speed of 1140 MPH , a top height of above 50000 FT , and is less maneuverable. Also the SU37 would WIN because it’s rader can pick up stealth. So you people who think the Raptor would win, WRONG!So if you want to prove me wrong,do more research and write back.P.S. 44. Sry, but that’s wrong mig-29s cant hold shit in anything. And also, when it was first designed it was meant to get within 500ft of its target and hit it with a ROCKET. That stupid tactic is still used today by some pilots and it doesnt work.

    Comment by Ace — December 6, 2007 #

  45. ok first of all F-22s are about 20 years ahead of the SU-37 in avionics and have higher quality missiles plus stealth so even when the 37 pilot sees him coming the 22 will have shoved a missile up the 37’s ass. Plus the scientists at lockheed martin have designed a laser to specially fit the F-22 and will have it in use in 2013 that will outmatch any suhoki that will be built in a long time

    Comment by Ace — December 8, 2007 #

  46. O rite, hey su-37 lover thats wrong completely. The F-22 has a celing of 55000 tops 4100 ft lower than 37 but it has a top speed of 1400mph plus supercruise which lets it go at 900 mph without afterburner so when the 37 pilot runs away wetting his pants the 22 will be on top of him no problem. And also ur lying, the only way that russian piece of shit radar (or what they call radar) cant pick up the f-22 the only way that would happen was if the 22 pilot turned off his stealth countermeasures and he does that only in civialian airspace to prevent crashes. Also the 37 does have better manuverability ill give u that but do dogfights really happen anymore u obviously have a mental issue so ill give u the answer NO! AAll planes need to be manuverable enough for is to evade enemy’s missiles and the AIM- 120 is way More maneuverable than the KS-172 so the SU-37 might as well SUCK MY ASS!

    Comment by Ace — December 12, 2007 #

  47. Hey, how about we all just agree that this is a frickin’ awesome aircraft. Personally, it would kick the F-22’s butt, but I don’t know. and about dogfights, who knows. It could happen.

  51. What Yellow 000 wrote on December 1, 2007 is probably one of the most fallible statements ever conceived in history. Air ceiling, speed, and maneuverability can be key in battle, however; there was something that came about a long time ago called strategy. Via weapons upgrades in capability as well as the amazing fact that humans aren’t robots, the battle could tip either way. There are too many variables to be considered, especially when the most dynamic of which is the human piloting the craft. I’m not coming from the point of a smart-ass like some who have posted on this forum but I am not picking favorites either. Both the Su-37 as well as the F-22 are on my top 5 list because of the innovative feats their designers have achieved through building and honing these deadly beasts. The most important thing to consider is strategy and how humans implement that to the best of their abilities given their brain capacity and amazing engineering. By the way, Yellow 000, if you ever do read this don’t be hurt, just understand that you have written from an extremely narrow viewpoint and I wanted to share with you and everyone else what I know about these planes.

    Comment by Dave — May 5, 2008 #

  52. I find some of the comnments amusing , some are based with facts the german aiforce has 24 mig 29’s in operation inherated from the former east germany and these aifcraft are the older first gen mig 29 , they have the archer missle fitted and helmet display. what the germans found after learning to fly and use the mig 29’s full potential is that they kick ass, they had a perfect kill ratio against any western fighter. This shocked the u.s airforce who arranged to have the germans bring the mig 29 to italy and dogfight with the u.s f16’s based there. Again the mig did as expected performing admiraly tho the f 16’s where able to score some kills against the mig 29 , but not as the u.s airforce predicted in coclusion the us pilots said the f 16 was a better plane to fly and easier to fly than the mig 29 ,but none of them wish to ever come up against the mig 29 in combat because its a deadly mother in the right hands, I also read another blog recently about the f22 and the su 37 super flanker most su 35’s have been upgraded to super flanker spec and in the words of one u.s general he said and i quote: The f22 has stealth but the su 35 have over the horizon rader which in theory can pick up an f22 , and if the f22 cannot get shot off first then god help the f22 pilot cos the f22 cant outrun the su 35 nor can it out manouver the su 35 , This means that if the f22 pilot misses the su will pick him up and its game over . The su 35 can also detect when the f22 fires its missles not to mention the su 35 will soon have if it doesnt already rear firing missles. So if i were buying the latest gen fighter to protect my country i would buy the su 35 its cheaper , its deadly and probably the best attack fighter in the world today !!!
