The MiG-35 could be a tough competitor here...The most modern Russian combat aircraft today and propably the most versatile too...impressive jet.

F-14 is not a fighter, it's an interceptor.
If you put the Tomcat/Bombcat/Supertomcat on the poll, be sure to put MiG-31E/M/BM too. |

My opinion:
Best fighter in the air: F-22 Best fighter (when the cost is included): Su-35/37 Best fighter for SEAD : F-35 or F-22 depending on numbers Best fighter for bombing: Su-32 Best fighter for air patrol: Eurofighter or Gripen depending on numbers Best fighter for dogfight: Su-35/37 or Mig-29 OVT. Best fighter for interception: Su-35/37 In my opinion, there is no fighter that is superior in all aspects. F-22 may be the best, but when it comes to cost, I would prefer 2-3 Su-35/37s instead of a single F-22 ![]() |

To zb10948: The Super Cat never flew, it was just a plan to replace the venerable Cats which was ultimately done by not the Super Cat but Super Hornet...
The Cat would have been a good plane in the poll but its not in service anymore...There's other things too (sorry Pavel hope you'll enhance the list a bit) I'd like to criticise...Firstly, The Sukhoi SU-35 and -37...hmmm, the SU-37 is no more...The SU-35 is practically a prototype (yes, of course there are a handfull of them in use with the Russian Flight Test Institute) but as stated there will be an new version of the SU-35 but not yet and it will also (atleast at first) be just a prototype...So, I think the only Sukhoi series fighters clever to take on the list are the SU-30MK, SU-27SM and SU-34 (SU-32)... Yes, I know that the list is not updated but if you have time Pavel it would be nice if the MiG-29OVT would be changed to the MiG-35 (thought not in service yet)... The F-15C/E...Propably the best Eagles soaring to the skies all over the world are the South-Korean F-15Ks... and it would be clever to put the J-10 on the list too...

are you kidding? the MiG-290VT has virtually an unlimited angle of attack, among other improvements. i think in pure dogfights, it could be a sure winner. "impressive" is an understatement! ![]()

Did you Komradsky know that the MiG-35 has all the same maneurability as the MiG-29OVT?

This MiG 35 is new to me. But for a couple of years, maybe more...a Czech site showed a MiG 35 which had canards,TVC and upper intakes like the good old FulcrumA & B. What became of that?

To get better value inputs on various fighter-types, capabilities, characteristics, performance the forum should have more inputs from pilots of those countries having multi-source inventory, such as Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, India, Finnland, Switzerland etc. Those pilots will still be mostly in favor of the specific types they have their assignement on (i.E.: Flankers, Hornets, Falcons, Fulcrums, etc. in the same state's Air Forces, but no pro-regimes and regime-foes will spew their flames into the topic. So none of the soccer-fan propaganda enters, this way at least one polluting factor is thrown out to get more objectivity. German pilots would be good too (East-West fleet), but with a grain of caution: their trainings and doctrines were different to start with, and that may be separately viewed and evaluated (human factor and not just hardware).
