Default some buddy refuellers

Hey you all!

I found this discussion interesting and wanted to add some planes that can also act as aerial refuelers...

So, Panavia Tornado, S-3B Viking, Super Etendard, Mirage 2000. All of these uses 'buddy' refuelling packs. And I think that in future they but this capability to almost every new multirole aircraft...

Yes, I think heli with airial refuelling is the only way to get specops team to the point deep in the hostile area - and what's more important, to get them back (I mean not only airborne).

About 'buddy' refuelling packs for every multirole aircraft - I think it's absolutely great, it increases our favorite word - flexibility (Greetings to Merkava )

I wonder if those refuelers fighters have same kind of AAM in order to defend themselves in a hostile situation.

Sure those planes are able to carry missiles. But every kilo you load weapons is away from fuel and range. And of course air to air refueling is not done in hostile area.

While refueling the tanker cannot aim missiles - so you´ll need some kind of fighter cover anyway.

Agree, they can refuel and they have AAM (they are fighters!) but not in the combat/hostile environment.

About tankers - not sure is they have some active countermeasures (btw, interesting question!) - but passive I like so much I mean - C-130 Hercules firing flares video

Don't know how effective are they... but for sure they may kill with their beauty!

That´s plane-specific for sure. Standard EW self protection suite might have a RWR (radar warning receiver) and dispensers. In more advanced configuration there could be even a MAW (missile approach warner), DIRCM (directed ir counter measures) and self protection jammer.

Refueling and launching flares at the same time... nice fireworks anyway!

You didn't like it in Stealth movie?

You are right, it seems like while refuelling both of them - tankers, fighters, whatever are sitting ducks anyhow.

Cool.... Aerial Refuelling is so interesting, although when I was alot younger I used to think that aerial refuelling was done by the pilot opening his canopy, then catching the fuel tanks thrown off the back of a tanker. That proved to be one of the most stupidest ideas in my history of studying aircraft.

Does any other fighters in the world do it?

I'm really extremely surpirsed.

Yes, they can refuel each other. The US Navy uses Viking aircrafts to do that job, in the russian navy the Su-33 as that function.
