Mr Kuznetsov,
I read a lot of articles about mig 29, su 25 and upgrade programs for these aircrafts, but I am confused about some details. So my question is: Can Mig-29 fulcrum(not mig-29M or SMT) use kab-500kr (tv guided bomb) or kab-1500kr or laser guided bomb kab-1500l. I mean for example, can mig-29 drop kab-1500l laser guided bomb to some laser illuminated target. Also may su-25(basic version not su-25sm) carry some of this bombs. Also Do You have any information about, how many mig-29m, mig-29m2 and mig-29smt are in service with Russian air force. I know that Russian air force plan to upgrade about 150 mig-29 to mig-29smt standard, but I can't find information about how much aircraft are already upgraded. |

I am not sure about this, mr. Kuznetsov will know for sure, but i think that MiG-29A/S cannot employ laser guided or tv bombs.
You don't need to have a lot of extra avionics to employ tv guided weapons. If it were war conditions, i think that MiG-29A/S tech crews could "pimp up" the Fulcrum to use that kind of weapons - it's rather easy, you just need a output of the TV seeker inside the pit, and a control channel for zooming, locking, engagement. That stuff is simple enough - like AGM-65 support on the A-10. The Fulcrum's MFD could be used for bomb sensory output. It could be, theoretically, possible, for Fulcrum to use laser guided bombs without major addon to the avionics. Just that the ilummination should come from a different source that has the ability to pinpoint laser beams. For Su-25, i don't either think that it can use tv guided bombs, because it doesn't have any displays in it's pit. I'm not sure about laser guidance, it does have a laser pinpointer for SALH missiles... Anyways, i'm also unpatient to hear the right answer from Mr. Kuznetsov ![]() |

the basic Mig29 could only do smple ground attacks (Unguided Rockets, Dumb-Iron Bombs)
the Su25 has a laser targer designator, but which could only be used on short ranges because lack of a targeting monitor - the laser had to be pointed using the "gunsight-HUD", which i think makes a super precise guided bomb needless. |

If mig-29 can't carry video and laser guided bombs, can basic mig-29 or su-27 carry kh-31 or kh-35 radar guided anti-ship missiles. I mean can mig-29 detect navy warship by its radar and fire kh-35(radar guided missile). Because, missiles like this have its own radar system and fly autonomous to the target.
Also can it use kh-31p because this missile is designed to hit surface radars system because it use semi-active radar homing head. |

Su-33 can employ active radar missiles. Baseline Su-27 can't, but i think it could, it's radar is good enough.
MiG-29A/S lacks true look-down/shoot-down capabilities, so i don't think it could do precise radar AG attacks. And yes, on Su-25 the laser pinpointer needs to be targeted via the HUD crosshair, no magnification, no symbology... |
