An attached book is here about even older times. It is not about flying --- that old days of the Siberian conflicts (when everyone was enemy to every others).
The last chapter has a few interesting statements and predictions of the - the future - today.

One of the abandoned camps from Stalin's time. I have to admit that the buildings are sturdy and well built, the nature is pristine. Maybe with possibility to take family (or balanced girls-boys company) and disposing of the guards - I would say it could be as liveable as the Mojave Desert was.
* NOTE: No fence of any kind at this gulag camp. The barracks of prisoners are bordered by the river and by a ring-road path where the guards with dogs could stroll and hunt. Just outside the ring-road are the offices and the quarters of the guards personnel (there is a large red star on the building in the lower left corner, I guess: to scare the tigers away). The only traffic access to and from the camp was the railroad bridge (heavily guarded of course). This camp was far from being the ugliest one.
