“We are preparing new contract with Komsomolsk-na-Amure Aviation Production Association (KnAAPO) for the upgrade of another 24 Su-27 fighters to the Su-27SM” said Mikhail Pogosyan, General Director of Sukhoi Aircraft Military Industrial Complex.
“In this year we have supplied Russian Air Forces with 6 upgraded Su-27SM fighters which completed three years contract for the upgrade of 24 Su-27. This makes good ground for the new contract for another 24 Su-27 fighters upgrade. Right now contract is being prepared, it will be KnAAPO to fulfill it.” said M.Pogosyan.
M.Pogosyan has mentioned that such big enough modification contract is first one for the last years. Todays requirements of Russian Air Forces in new modernized Su-27SM are evaluated at 200 aircrafts.
Experts say new Su-27SM is 60% more effective then Su-27. First 24 Su-27SM were delivered to the airbases on Far East.
Together with this contract were forced works on other directions. For example in December on the Novosibirsk Aircraft Production Association will take place delivery of new serial fighter-bomber Su-27IB (Su-34) and upgraded frontline bomber Su-24M to the Russian Air Forces.
These first serial planes will be specially tested in Ministry of Defense State Flight Test Center.
Special attention Mikhail Pogosyan has paid to the Su-35 program in a new version from the Sukhoi design bureau. Right now KnAAPO is finishing to assemble first prototype and several more are in production on different stages. He said that in the middle of 2007 this plane will take first flight tests.

I hope that the upgrading of the Su-27’s into the newer variant flanker will prove sufficient to counter the NATO airborne forces of Europe and Asia.
