Sept 6 (Interfax) - A criminal case has been opened into a Monday incident where a Su-33 fighter crashed into the sea whilst attempting to land on the flight deck of the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier in the North Atlantic.
The criminal case was initiated on flight rules violation charges, a source in the Northern Fleet headquarters told Interfax on Tuesday.
Lieutenant General Yury Antipov, who is in charge of the navy’s aviation and air-defense system, is now working aboard the vessel. An investigation is underway.
A preliminary report has blamed a failure in the plane’s braking system for the incident.
The source said that the Su-33 was in good working order before the mission.
