A great buy for Venezuela. I am a Flanker fan, so I usualy like to see them flying.
I wonder how many more south american countries will buy russian equipment, and at wich scale. Brazil, as a strong NATO ally must find some funds to invest in those JAS-39s and Rafales they were wondering to buy, or it will find itself in some serious desavantage.

James is a dope, engaging in the usual Anglo supremacist smuggery. Chavez is doing wonders for his people-that is why he was RE-elected, overwhelmingly(62%) in December 2006 election deemed fair and legal by over 1,000 international observers, including from U.S.

He is spending far more for education, health care and well-being of the People of Venezuela than on the military. But he is spending enough to ensure protection of his country from the corporate pillaging intended by the military intimidations of the U.S.

Too bad for the designs of U.S.Fourth Reichers like James.

Chavez is a dope. He is spending billions on the military while the majority of Venezuelans are dirt poor. The Shah did the same thing in Iran buying F-14's etc and we all saw what happened in 1979. In the event of an armed conflict with Venezuela USAF Raptors would easily blow those Flankers out of the sky.

I am surprised that Venezuelan would have chosen Su-30MKK2 over Su-30MKI. Chavez must have got necessary counseling from Chinese.
The Su-30MKK2 multi-role fighter is capable of carrying 12,000 kg of armaments, the most among all heavy fighters. That maximum payload is about 900 kg heavier than F-15Es. As a whole, the overall performance of Su-30MKK2 is better than F-15E. That makes Su-30MKK a very powerful beast.

Also, it’s reported that Venezuelan interested in procuring J-10 fighter from China, along with a plan to purchase 9 Kilo-class 636M submarines from Russia.

A few years ago Argentina also considered buying Russion airplanes, if i´m not wrong i think they we´re about to purchase some nifty Migs 29 for aerial combat and and light attacks along with SU-35 to cover everything else.

I'm agree with 'novis' opinion...until this moment most of the 3rd world country preferred to do business either with Russia,China,India and some European country especially in military matters.

The MK2 were a short term buy. What will end being the spearhead of the Air Force will be the Su-35BM(and perhaps the PAK-FA)once its R&D its complete.

Few years back there were rumours saying that Venezuela considered Su-35 in their new fighters ordering list from Russia.Just didn't guess that they would end up ordering Su-30MK2 from Russia, but anyway, the MK2 is a capable fighter, this I think was promised to Chavez during his visit to China last year, most likely by Hu Jintao.
